Mckenzie has been learning all about reptiles! We went on a field trip to the pond near her school to catch frogs. I really wanted Brian to go because I really don't want or like to touch ugly frogs. In fact I don't think I have held a frog since childhood. I had to put the cool mom attitude on and pretend that I was not completely mortified and disgusted by the swampy muddy pond. On top of everything. All the little girls wanted to be in Mckenzie's group because she had a net to catch the frog. I had to live up to all those cute little girls expectations. We had a really hard time for a while finding any frogs because there were stampedes of children running around scaring away all the frogs. So we finally found a frog swimming in the pond close to the shore. The girls gave me the net and told be to reach and catch the big bull frog. So I walked into the pond with by cute little ballet flats getting them all muddy and caught the frog. All the girls were screaming and jumping up and down saying "we caught a frog!! we caught a frog!!!" All the other kids started running to see. We needed help because our net was very little and I was not about to grab the frog with my bare hands. Oh.. did I mention the net broke when I caught this humongous frog..well it did! I was standing there and no one was coming fast enough. I decided to scoop this frog up with the net because it almost seemed as if the frog was dead. It wasn't moving at all. I scooped it up and it was upside down. I then brought the frog closer to me to get a good look and then bam!!!!! The frog was not dead it was pretending and it jumped out of the net and back in the water!!! I was sooo mad!!! After it jumped out all the other kids with the bigger net came and there was no frog to be found. I was so disappointing Only one other parent caught a frog that day and I was no longer the cool mom! haha! I was the mom who let the frog slip away. I still think about the awful moment when my shoes were soaking in the stinky swamping mud and I debated grabbing the frog with my bare hands! Why didn't I? Well next year when Madison has this same field trip I will be coming with rain boots and a huge sturdy net!!! I will be the cool mom who catches the big bull frog! HAHA I laugh just thinking about it. I'm not very competitive but for some reason I really need to do this! Mckenzie still had a great time and she got to pet the frog that her class mates dad caught!
